Indian chickpeas are rich in protein and are one of the earliest cultivated legumes. It is very popular in different countries of the world and is also known as garbanzo bean, ceci bean, chana, snagalu, Bengal gram etc. These are the common names through which it is being identified and known as. These beans are basically of two types, the Desi and Kabuli. Desi beans are small and have dark seeds and rough coat. It is also known as the Bengal gram. It is considered as the earliest form of beans that was known to people, since it resembles the seeds that were found at the archaeological sites. The Kabuli has light color, larger seeds and smooth coats. This has low fiber content as compared to the desi ones.
